Summary

The video begins with a demonstration showing the amount of water on earth that is readily available for our use. The "watershed" concept is explained by local experts, emphasizing that everything that happens on the land also affects the rivers. After describing the changes that have happened to the river since pre-European settlement times, several pieces of legislation are highlighted. The Faribault Natural Resources Inventory and the Rice County Resource Management Plan are introduced since they directly affect the health of the river and were created in part by citizen advisory groups. Assessment of the quality of rivers in Rice County, why people might be concerned about this quality, and actions that citizens could take to improve the quality of the rivers even if they don’t see a river out of their window conclude this video.
